The Hand girls’ lacrosse team is making waves on the turf, proving that age is just a number when it comes to talent and determination. Despite being labeled as a rebuilding team due to their youthful roster, the Tigers have exceeded expectations and are charting a course for success both now and in the future.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Lindsey Carroll, the Tigers delivered an impressive performance in the 2023 season, finishing with an 11-5 record. Despite their relatively young lineup, they secured the No. 2 seed in both the Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) and Class M State Tournament, showcasing their resilience and competitive spirit on the field.

Fast forward to 2024, and the Tigers are off to a flying start with a 9-4 record in the regular season. Coach Carroll emphasizes the team’s focus on continuous improvement, aiming to foster a team-first mentality and enhance their skills with each passing day. With eyes set on SCCs and states, the Tigers are gearing up for an exciting postseason run.

Leading the charge are seniors Haley Wines and Paige Steffan, who serve as captains and role models for their teammates. Wines brings offensive firepower and a high lacrosse IQ, while Steffan anchors the defense with her exceptional skills and unwavering work ethic.

The Tigers also boast a talented lineup of sophomores, including Claire Levis and Ellie Flynn, who contribute both on offense and defense with their dynamic play. In goal, Ava Bonalsky and Lilliana Gerrard showcase their tenacity and athleticism, guarding the net with precision and skill.

On defense, Elizabeth Walsh and Bridget Waters stand out for their speed, agility, and ability to force turnovers. Their contributions on the field are invaluable, helping the Tigers secure crucial victories against tough opponents.

As the season progresses, Hand continues to rack up impressive wins, demonstrating their strength and resilience on the field. With a focus on building a solid foundation for the future, Coach Carroll and her coaching staff are committed to nurturing the talents of their young team and instilling a sense of pride in the Hand community.

With a roster filled with promising talent and a coaching staff dedicated to their development, the future looks bright for the Hand girls’ lacrosse team. As they continue to grow and evolve, one thing is certain – the Tigers are well on their way to becoming a force to be reckoned with in the world of high school lacrosse.
